Mitsubishi expands sales of i-MiEV

The electrification of the automobile is truly a worldwide phenomenon and now Mitsubishi is expanding sales of the i-MiEV into yet another country.

This time it is the Republic of Costa Rica which will welcome the vehicle, predominantly to fleet customers including government affiliates and electric companies. It is the first time the i-MiEV has been sold in Latin America.

The release of the i-MiEV is part of a wider effort by the Costa Rican government to be the first “carbon offset country” that emits zero carbon dioxide by 2021. There are high hopes that using electric vehicles as transportation tools will help to reduce CO2 emissions and the government will offer exemption of custom duties for electric vehicle purchasers.

Originally launched in Japan to fleet customers in July 2009, the i-MiEV has since expanded to Hong Kong, Australia and will begin to sell an expanded model in the United States this autumn.
