Niche vehicle maker Pininfarina has signed an agreement with France’s Bolloré to finally bring its prototype electric car into production.
A new company called CeComp will lease part of the Italian car maker’s Turin factory, for the production of 4,000 electric cars. The electric models will not go on sale but will become part of France’s Autolib car sharing programme which is set to launch in October.
Cecomp will produce an electric car derived from the concept Pininfarina Bluecar, a project vehicle first unveiled at the 2008 Paris Motor Show. While the full details of the new production model aren’t yet known, we know that that concept model featured LMP (Lythium Metal Polymere) batteries and had a range of around 250 km per charge.
The Italian firm will make available its plant and equipment for the production of the EV and will also supply some of its staff for the project.
In return, Pininfarina receives 14 million euros as part of the lease contract which runs until December 2013.
