Free smarter driving training for electric car buyers

The Energy Saving Trust is offering free ‘Smarter Driving’ training for drivers purchasing electric vehicles before the end of May 2011.

The trust, which provides impartial advise on energy use issues, has launched a programme to help petrol and diesel drivers adjust to electric cars and learn how to drive them as efficiently as possible. According to the trust, the first 15,000 drivers who took thee course to help them learn how to drive combustion vehicles as efficiently as possible, saw an average 15 per cent reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions immediately after completing the course. Now the training is available for electric car drivers and it’s expected that the energy savings could be even greater, helping EV drivers to significantly boost the driving range of their vehicles.

Training must take place before 31st May 2011 and is only available in England and for recipients of grants from the Government’s plug-in car grant scheme, meaning that only a limited number of electric cars will help you qualify for the course (i.e the Nissan Leaf, Mitsubishi i-MiEV and Peugeot iOn).

Training will take place at an EV dealer near you and will last for approximately 2 hours per driver. For fleet buyers who have purchased pool cars, then EST can train up to 4 drivers per vehicle purchased.

To sign up for your free smarter driving training session fill in the application form here and return to the Energy Saving Trust.
