Citroen C-ZERO reaches electric car capital of the world

As London tries to position itself as the electric car capital of the world, the acclaimed Citroen C-ZERO has been introduced to the city’s Mayor, Boris Johnson.

The C-ZERO has a maximum range of 93 miles and is already capable of cutting through London’s traffic. Indeed research from Citroen shows that average daily journeys in urban areas are 23 miles, with the car at rest for 92 per cent of the day – more than enough to provide plenty of recharging opportunities.

C-Zero with Boris Johnson

Boris Johnson believes that the C-ZERO will have a great chance of success in London.

“Through the development of Source London we are seeking to create the fertile conditions for electric vehicles to flourish, to make our city the electric driving capital of Europe,” he said.

“This is in support of the expanding range of electric cars coming to market and will deliver a range of environmental benefits in terms of pushing down on pollution in London.”

Source London is expected to introduce a city wide electric vehicle charging network this spring. Currently, there are more than 250 charge points across the capital but this will be expanded to at least 1,300 by 2013. Linda Jackson, the managing director of Citroen UK, believes the C-ZERO will be ideal for the city and to demonstrate the benefits of electric power.

“C-ZERO is perfectly placed to demonstrate the benefits of switching on to electric power,” she said.

“By offering zero emissions while running, owners incur zero company car tax, zero Vehicle Excise Duty and zero London Congestion Charge. We are delighted to see the Citroën C-ZERO take its place at the start of an exciting new era for London.”
