Owners of the electric supercar model, the Tesla Roadster have now clocked up over 10 million miles and saved 500,000 gallons of petrol in the process.
Running in over 30 countries, the 1500 Roadster models sold since the model was launched in 2008 have saved over 5.3 million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions. Silicon valley start-up Tesla is now the most successful electric vehicle manufacturer in the world thanks to the unbeatable credentials of its first model. The Roadster offers blistering performance, sprinting to 60mph in 3.7 seconds and travels 245 miles on a single charge. All with on only battery power.
Tesla launched the Roadster 2.5, the fourth iteration of the vehicle, last year and now plans the launch of a new, four seat family car called the Model S for 2012.
“We owe this achievement to Roadster drivers around the world and their pioneering adoption of electric vehicles,” said Tesla Motors cofounder and CEO Elon Musk. “The Roadster has proven to the world that electric cars can be incredibly fun, and practical. Most importantly, these vehicles have provided Tesla with a real-world test fleet that allows us to stay on the cutting edge of electric powertrain engineering and technology.”
