Who thought that all the technology of an electric car was limited to its battery system? On the contrary, the Volvo C30 Electric manages to pack in not one; not two; but three climate systems
One of the systems will supply passengers with heating or cooling; another cools or warms the battery pack; and finally the electric motor and power electronics are water cooled.
In addition, the Volvo C30 Electric comes with a bio-ethanol powered heater for climate control which helps drivers enjoy comfortable heating in cold winter conditions without compromises to the battery driving range. It also includes an ethanol tank that can carry 14.5litres of bio-ethanol.
According to Lennart Stegland, the director of Volvo Cars’ Special Vehicles, the driver can programme the climate unit to suit the trip with ethanol being the default mode used when the battery capacity is needed for driving to extend mobility to its maximum.
In addition, the company has developed new testing methods for the electric vehicles having been testing the C30 in winter conditions as low as -20 degrees Celsius.
