China is not only the world’s largest automotive market, but arguably now it’s most important. That’s why Audi will be thrilled to have posted huge growth figures in the country during the first quarter of 2011.
Over the first three months of the year it sold 64,122 cars in China and Hong Kong – an increase of 24.6 per cent.
Sales of imported vehicles increased by 66.4 per cent to 11,481 units; while models built in Changchun increased in sales by 18.2 per cent. The Audi A8 L, launched in March, sold 1,655 units during that month alone. Meanwhile, sales of the Audi A5 Coupe doubled from 339 to 716 units and deliveries of the Audi Q7 shot up by 76.6 per cent to 4,051 units.
Now Audi is targeting 2011 sales of around 280,000 units in China and its dealer network is being extended with the current number of 174 to be increased to 400 by the end of 2013.
It will also use the Auto Shanghai 2011 motor show to make the world premiere of the Audi Q3. The event runs from April 19-28.
