The Amsterdam Motor Show will be the stage for the debut of the new Ford Focus ECOnetic.
The diesel vehicle will go on sale early next year with a number of advanced technologies that Ford expects will make it more efficient than any other compact vehicle on the road, including hybrid vehicles.
The Focus ECOnetic will deliver 67mpg with CO2 emissions below 95g/km. It comes with a new 105PS version of the Ford Duratorq TDCi diesel engine and has been optimised for fuel efficiency with a new injection system and turbocharger as well as friction reducing measures and enhanced charge cooling.
In addition, the vehicle has a number of low CO2 features such as an aerodynamic package with an active grille shutter, a revised final drive ratio and ultra-low rolling resistance tyres. It also includes the full range of ECOnetic technologies such as Ford auto start-stop, smart regenerative charging, Ford Eco Mode and shift indicator light. The new injection system also comes with more precise control and increased combustion efficiency.
Other new features include: a new variable geometry turbocharger design; a reduced engine friction from low friction piston ring coatings; and an updated emissions system with a coated diesel particulate filter system and a diesel nitrogen oxide reducing catalyst.
It is expected that the vehicle will be produced for the European market in Germany with an introduction to the market in 2012.
