Canada Post adds electric truck to fleet

If you live in Canada it might be worth taking another look at the delivery van that brings your post – because Canada Post has added the first all-electric step vans to its fleet.

The Navistar eStar has a range of 100miles and can be fully recharged within six- to eight hours. It can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by as much as 10 tons annually. Its windscreen (windshield) design provides nearly 180 degree visibility while the low-floor design means that loading/unloading is easy.

It’s a significant breakthrough for electric vans as Canada Post has the largest delivery fleet in the country.

It boasts more than 7,300 vehicles that travel more than 49million miles a year. It is just the latest investment from Canada Post in green technology as it has made investments into the research and testing of ethanol, biodiesel, natural gas, propane, hydrogen, hybrid and electric vehicles.
