A contract up to $1,400,000 has been awarded by the Port of Los Angeles to Vision Motor Corporation to retrofit up to 15 of its electric trucks with a range extending hydrogen fuel cell electric hybrid system.
The Port has initially issued a purchase order for six retrofits with the remaining orders contingent on the availability of further funding.
Vision Motor is the mastermind behind the Tyrano, a hybrid electric/hydrogen fuel cell heavy duty class eight truck.
Its hydrogen fuel cell system can extend the driving and operating range of the fleet of battery electric trucks and remove the traditional down time caused by the range limitations of battery only trucks that pull heavy cargo loads.
