Keep your eye on General Motors (GM) over the next five years as the company aims to introduce more than 60 new models and produce upgrades.
Its two mainstream brands – Buick and Chevrolet – will drive the changes. Buick will introduce 12 new and upgraded products; while Chevrolet will boast 15 new models and upgrades while also bringing to market a new line of SUVs and performance vehicles.
Electrification will also be at the heart of the changes, according to Kevin Wale, president and managing director of GM China.
Wale has already announced the Volt and Electric Networked Vehicle, which will take part in a ride and drive program organised by the Shanghai Municipal Government’s New Energy Promotion Office. They follow on from the introduction of the GM Sail battery electric concept vehicle last year.
Also planned is the new Buick LaCrosse with eAssist, with a fuel economy improvement of 25 per cent.
In addition, GM plans to team up with SAIC to develop a next generation electric vehicle. It will work with the domestic supply base to develop a local capability for the provision of high quality components to support the move to electrification.
