Toyota Prius Plug-in registrations open

Customers in the US can now register their interest in becoming one of the first owners of Toyota’s exciting new Plug-in Prius.

The Japanese car maker has announced that its new Online Order System has begun taking ‘Priority Registrations’ where customers can register their interest in placing an order for one of the first Plug-in Prius models to roll off the production line.

Toyota Prius plug-in trial in London

The Plug-in version of the Prius is Toyota’s next exciting step in the increasing electrification of its fleet. Unlike an ordinary hybrid, the plug-in version will be able to be ‘plugged in’ to recharge its battery, allowing it to make greater use of ‘emission free’ electric drive.

The model will go on sale in the US later this year, with the first deliveries in early 2012. Toyota dealers in just fifteen launch states will receive the model initially, before the model becomes available nationwide from 2013. The plug-in car is also expected to launch in Europe and Japan in 2012, although Toyota has yet to confirm dates.

Customers who are interested in being one of the first to own a Prius Plug-in can log on to www.toyota.com/plugin and complete their registration on the site.

The 15 launch states are Arizona, California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, and Washington, although online ordering will not be available in Hawaii.

The Prius Plug-in is currently being trialled in the UK as part of a three year leasing programme being run in collaboration with EDF Energy (see story).
