Spain announces electric vehicle subsidies

The Government of Spain is aiming to stimulate the electric vehicle market by approving a number of incentives.

Among the efforts announces are direct subsidies for the purchase of the vehicles with a budget of €72million for 2011. Electric cars will be subsidised for up to 25 per cent of the purchase price before tax; with a maximum of €6,000 subsidised per vehicle.

In addition, 25 per cent of the gross purchase price of other electric vehicles – such as buses, coaches and vans – will also be subsidised with incentives ranging from €15,000-€30,000 depending both on vehicle type and range.
