First chance to test drive the Vauxhall Ampera

The annual Arrive ‘n’ Drive by GreenFleet arrives at Rockingham Speedway next week (Thursday May 26, 2011) and will give UK fleet managers a first chance to see and test drive the Vauxhall Ampera.

The event is free to attend for those working in the fleet and transport sector and gives attendees the chance to learn about and try out the latest low emission and zero tailpipe emission cars.

Excitingly,it will be the first opportunity for UK fleet sector workers to see and test drive Vauxhall new range-extended model due out in 2012. The car, which uses both lithium ion batteries and a back-up petrol engine, is capable of driving 35 miles on electric drive alone but has a ‘extended range’ of over 300 miles to avoid the ‘range anxiety’ sometimes suffered by fully-electric car drivers.

Other confirmed manufacturers exhibiting include Honda, Citroen, Peugeot and Hyundai.  Electric cars available to try include the Peugeot Ion and Citroen C-Zero, which will be found in the EV Arena, sponsored this year by EDF Energy, who will be on-hand to discuss recharging infrastructure issues.

Centrally located, Rockingham Speedway is easily accessible from the A1, M1 and A14, within easy reach of London and 30 minutes from Bedford. The international motorsport venue, based in Corby, Northants is the first purpose built race track in the UK since Brooklands in 1907. It offers  multiple in-field circuit configurations, featuring hairpins, straights and chicanes with ample passing and run-off areas.

The event is supported by TheGreenCarWebsite.co.uk along with ContractHireAndLeasing.com, FleetDirectory.co.uk, LowCVP, ACFO and the BVRLA to name a few.
