If cycling is not for you and electric cars have yet to win you over then there maybe an alternative, set for imminent arrival in London.
Plans are now well underway to launch a a nationwide series of electric scooter rental scheme to build on the success of the ‘Boris Bikes’ scheme in London. More than 1000 German-made TP Scoot will be made available in London this summer and there are plans for similar schemes in Brighton, Oxford, Cambridge, Isle of Wight and Milton Keynes later in the year.
The scheme will operate from a number of locations in each region, including car parks, rental companies and transport hubs. The company behind the schemes, ZEV Europe, is currently in discussions with various private and public stakeholders.
The two-wheeled TP Scoot has been in use in towns and cities in Germany for nearly ten years. It’s now being brought to the UK by a group of entrepreneurs aiming to revolutionise personal transport.
With electricity costing around 1p per mile, the TP Scoot can save hundreds of pounds on petrol, as well as enjoying zero rated road tax, low insurance and congestion zone exemption in London.
Spokesman Rudi Schogger says: “ It is compact enough to be stored in the corner of any hallway or reception, or folded down to be stored under a desk or in a car boot, making transport completely door to door. It can be charged at home overnight, work or even topped up for half an hour in any obliging coffee shop.”
The scooters can be charged from a standard plug in 5 to 6 hours and have a 40 mile battery range. With a top speed of 20 miles per hour, their ideal for slow moving urban commutes. The TP Scoot is available to buy from UK and Ireland distributor Electric Scooter Shop, priced at £1,795 including VAT.
