Production is now under way for the Volvo C30 Electric, with initial deliveries taking place this summer and heading to leasing customers, including companies, authorities and governmental bodies.
The vehicle is manufactured and delivered to leasing customers throughout Europe, including Sweden, Belgium, Netherlands and Norway. There have already been tests on a fleet of around 50 cars and the C30 Electric was part of the One Tonne Life project in which a family was given the task of living as climate smart as possible for six months.
Built on the assembly line in Ghent factory the vehicle is then transported to Goteborg where the motor, batteries and other model-specific electronics are installed. The batteries go where the fuel tank normally sits and in a compartment in the car’s central tunnel.
The car can be recharged in around seven hours with an operating range up to 93miles. Its top speed is 81mph and it travels from 0-31mph in four seconds. Volvo will build about 250 cars by the end of 2012.
