Turkey’s first EV sports car-in fact the country’s first sports car altogether-is to launch within the next three months.
According to Turkish news site Anadolu Ajanski (AA), the manufacturer of the Etox car is preparing for the vehicle’s imminent release. In an interview with AA, Ercan Malkov, owner of the Erteks Auto Decoration which makes the car, said the new model will have a range of 250 km (155 miles) to a single charge, although its top speed will be limited to just 120km/h (74 miles) despite its sporty appearance.
Malkov told the AA, he expected the new car to be ready for market launch by the end of the summer, having made its debut as a prototype back in 2007. Selling for around 30,000 to 35,000 Turkish liras (around £11,714 to £13667), the car will sell for around the same money a new supermini costs here in the UK. It is estimated that a full charge of the car’s batteries will cost just US$10 too, making an affordable and clean solution.
Malkov said: “This is nearly 90 per cent cheaper than present fuel prices.”
The firm is now seeking support from the country’s government to put the car into series production.
