Chevrolet Cruze makes fuel economy improvement

It is already one of the most popular and fuel efficient vehicles in America, and now the 2012 version of the Chevrolet Cruze will boost its fuel economy even further.

With a 1.4litre turbo engine and six-speed automatic transmission, the new vehicle will deliver two mpg better economy at 39mpg on the highway compared to 37mpg from the current model. Part of the reason for the boost is a lower axle ratio that enables an approximate five per cent increase in highway fuel efficiency.

Meanwhile, the Cruze Eco, with its standard six-speed manual transmission remains the most fuel efficient petrol powered non hybrid vehicle in the US with an EPA-rated 42mpg.

Other new features for 2012 include Bluetooth phone connectivity; USB port; leather-wrapped steering wheel and a leather-wrapped gear stick; and steering wheel mounted audio controls. These features are part of the Connectivity Plus Cruise Option package that was ordered by 90 per cent of American customers in 2011.

The Cruze is now established as Chevrolet’s best selling nameplate around the world, with global sales of more than 250,000 in the first four months of 2011.
