Audi ducks below 100g/km CO2 for the first time

Audi’s lowest emission model ever, the A1 fitted with a 1.6 TDi engine, has improved its green credentials even further, for the first time bringing the brand below the magic 100g/km CO2 figure-making it road tax and congestion charge exempt.

The latest version of the upmarket hatchback now produces just 99g/km CO2, down from 105g/km and achieves an impressive 74.3 mpg compared to 70.6mpg. Despite the lower running costs, the new model cost exactly the same as the old, across the SE, Sport and S Line models to boost the car’s appeal with private and business users alike.

A1 1.6 TDi

Ranging from £14,480 to £17,865 the new thrifty A1 benefits from further optimisation of its fuel system and engine management unit to achieve the new refined eco-credentials. Despite being greener, the performance delivered by the turbo charged and directly injected common rail unit remains as keen as ever. The A1 1.6 TDI with five-speed manual transmission sprints from rest to 62mph in 10.5 seconds, and where conditions allow can reach a top speed of 118mph.

The advantage held by the revised 1.6 TDI won’t only be felt at the filling station. With CO2 dipping below the 100g/km mark ,it is exempt from the London congestion charge, and also from Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) from year two onwards as the duty bandings currently stand. The majority of A1 models, including the 1.6 TDI, are already duty-free in the first year of ownership.

The Audi A1 looks great & no doubt will be a great little car. Certainly to be popular as a tax efficient frugal company car with low CO2 like that!
