Honda has announced a new global target to reduce emissions by 30 per cent by 2020 across all its products.
The firm, best known for its cars, also produces marine engines, lawnmowers, motorbikes, scooters and generators to name a few products and across all its sectors and in all countries, the firm now announces an intention to slash emissions across the board, building on its previous successes in improving environmental performance.
In 2006, Honda set a goal to reduce global CO2 emissions from use of its motorcycles, automobiles and power products by 10 per cent by the end of 2010, compared to year 2000 levels- a goal it achieved in all products.
The new target demonstrates how the global firm intends to realise its environmental vision of ‘joy and freedom in mobility’ and ‘a sustainable society where people can enjoy life’.
The new targets are outlined in Honda’s 2011 Environmental Annual Report. Honda has also introduced a global environmental slogan – “Blue Skies for Our Children.”
The new 30 per cent target for 2020 is likewise based on 2000’s level of emissions and presents the next step in reducing emissions. In addition, the company has pledged to reduce CO2 emissions during production and through the supply chain and will further strive to realise reductions in CO2 emissions throughout all corporate activities.
