New Mercedes-Benz truck reduces fuel consumption

In an attempt to slash emissions and fuel consumption of long distance transport, Mercedes-Benz has introduced the new Actros heavy duty truck.

The vehicle has been developed to comply with the Euro VI emission standard with fuel consumption around six per cent lower than the predecessor in the optional Euro V variant and around three per cent lower for the Euro VI version.

Over a 10,000km long distance comparative test drive, the new Euro VI Actros ran on 4.5 per cent less diesel than the current Euro V Actros.

At the heart of the improvement has been development work focused on aerodynamics.

In addition, to meet the Euro VI emission standard, Mercedes-Benz has developed an emission control system that includes SCR technology with AdBlue injection. The differences between the Euro V versions and the standard Euro VI variant include the omission of a particulate filter, reduced recirculation rate in the EGR system and a smaller EGR cooler.
