Peugeot reveals new 4×4 diesel hybrid model

Peugeot has found a new use for its ground-breaking diesel hybrid technology, in fitting it to a four wheel drive version of its 508 model.

Having just  launched the ‘world’s first diesel hybrid’, the French car maker is already looking to expand the use of the technology. Its first model, the 3008 HYbrid4 will begin deliveries to UK customers from this autumn.

Peugeot 508 RXH

Set to debut at September’s Frankfurt motor show, the new 508 RXH will go on sale next year. It’s unveiling follows on from the launch of a new 508 saloon and SW models, Higher and wider than the saloon model, the RXH is designed to offer real off-road ability.

Equipped with a 2.0-litre HDi HYbrid4 drivetrain  which generates 200bhp and maximum torque of 450 Nm, the model emits just 109g/km CO2. What’s better is that the car can travel in fully electric mode for no-tailpipe nasties, ideal for inner city driving conditions and great for boosting fuel economy, rated at  67.2 mpg. Yet it is also ready for the rougher roads with all wheels ready to engage when the going gets tough.

The model is also expected to aim for a high-end feel with distinctive colours and luxurious materials. It will be equipped as standard with Open & Go Keyless system, electric front seats, head up display, 18" wheels, panoramic glass roof, dark-tinted acoustic laminated side windows, latest generation audio and satellite navigation unit when it launches in the spring of 2012.

We’ll bring you more when we see the model in the metal at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September.
