Denmark to examine vehicle to grid technology

The Technical University of Denmark will look into vehicle to grid operation after AC Propulsion delivered its eBox to its research team.

With the aim of advancing integration of electric vehicles with Denmark’s electric power grid, which has extensive wind power generation capacity, the team will look into buffering intermittent renewable energy resources. It will work to integrate the power grid and electric vehicles as part of the Smart Grid initiative.

The eBox is equipped with AC Propulsion’s integrated charger, which allows grid-connected charging and discharging at up to 1.8kW. This is essential to buffering the large, but intermittent, power that is generated byDenmark’s offshore wind farms. With vehicle-to-grid, for example, a fleet of electric vehicles plugged into the grid could balance the variable ups and downs of power generated from the wind.

In addition, the researchers will work with the Universityof Delawareand Nuvve to investigate vehicle-to-grid compatibility with the European grid and outline the requirements for using the technology with Denmark’s increasing reliance on wind energy.

Actually, our charger is capable of a bidirectional 18 kW, not 1.8 kW.
