It’s the latest electrically powered car inToyota’s fleet – and now the Japanese manufacturer has announced the release date of the RAV4 EV.
The vehicle will reach the market in 2012 and will be sold to the general public as well as fleet users, despite reports to the contrary. Toyota believes there will be “robust” public interest.
The second generation of the RAV4 EV demonstrator vehicle was unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show in 2010 and a small fleet of the vehicles are currently being used as part of an evaluation programme. Tesla Motors supplies the battery for the vehicle as well as other related components.
In addition,Toyotahas highlighted that it will bring another battery electric vehicle to market in 2012 – in the form of the Scion iQ EV. While the RAV4 EV will be available to the public, the Scion iQ EV will be for fleet and car sharing programmes only.
