Toyota India to expand production capacity

The Indian car market continues to take on added importance on a global basis withToyotanow deciding to increase its annual production capacity in the country.

Its capacity will expand to 310,000 units in 2013 – an increase from the previously announced 210,000 units by the first half of 2012. Existing capacity is just 160,000 units.

The expansion will allow for timely deliveries of vehicles such as the Innova, Fortuner and the made-for-India Etios saloon car and Etios Liva hatchback. The Etios is a compact car with the saloon launched in December 2010 and the hatchback launched in June this year.

It is expected that around US$221million will be invested and new employees hired.
