A new initiative from business news publishers CNBC and Harvard Business Review (HBR) has been exploring smart energy use and future energy solutions, debating the important issues via a new website called Energy Opportunities.
It’s designed to be a global brainstorm, with events in London, Dalian and Singapore to bring the debate on-air as well as online. The first event in London took place on July 13, 2011, discussing smart mobility. Leading the debate so far has been the likes of industry luminaries such as Bill Ford, Chairman of Ford Motor Company and Andrew Winston, author of Green to Gold.
Ford Chairman, Bill Ford has set a ‘how can we avoid global gridlock?’ challenge , asking you for your ideas on how we can keep people on the move despite a growing world population, increasingly dense urban environments and increasing industrialisation of developing countries.
Other challenges include the Winston Challenge, as set by the author, who asks ‘do transport companies need to radically change their business model’ and the Lerner challenge as set by urban planner James Lerner who asks ‘can we turn urban nightmares into green dreams?’
Watch the video featuring Bill Ford above, as he asks the tough question about how the world can remain mobile in an environment projected to have 2 to 4 billion vehicles on the road by mid century, rising from today’s 800 million vehicles.
