Mazda to bring SKYACTIV technology to new vehicle

The North American market will soon be blessed by a new version of the Mazda3 – which will boast SKYACTIV technology.

SKYACTIV is the term for Mazda’s range of next generation technologies which includes petrol and diesel engines, transmissions and a new body and chassis that improve driving dynamics as well as both safety and environmental performance.

The SKYACTIV-G 1.3 direct injection petrol engine will be the first application of SKYACTIV technology to a production vehicle.

The Nikkei outlines that Mazda wants to get the technology to the North American market to secure its revenues which have suffered after the Tohoku earthquake and reduced inventories on car lots. The new Mazda3 is expected to offer 30 per cent better fuel economy; and according to its report, the sub compact will be released before the end of the March, 2012.

Mazda is also planning to release a new model of its CX-5 SUV with SKYACTIV technologies in 2012.
