Top Gear v Nissan: Nissan releases battery life video

If nothing else the latest episode of Top Gear has helped propel electric cars, and specifically the Nissan LEAF, firmly into the public consciousness. The show which aired on Sunday 31st July saw Jeremy Clarkson and James May on the hunt for somewhere to recharge the electric cars they had been driving around Lincoln, and after failing miserably to find a suitable recharging station the LEAF was seen being pushed down a street by some helpful passer-bys.

The controversial segment also saw the pair of presenters warn viewers over the problems of electric car ownership, with battery life, range anxiety, and the length of time needed to recharge the battery key concerns raised – they even threw a few random figures into the mix, such as it costing £7,000 to replace the battery in a LEAF and raised questions over the longevity of the batteries currently found in electric cars.

Now Nissan has released an informative video on their battery technology and features Nissan’s Corporate Vice-President Simon Sproule talking about what’s underneath the surface of the LEAF.
