Audi has released the details of a bizarre new electric vehicle concept to rival the Renault Twizy Z.E.
In what seems an odd design for the premium car brand, the new Audi urban concept is a two seat vehicle, where the passenger sits behind the driver.
Audi says its new urban concept is designed to combined elements of a ‘racing car, a roadster, a fun car and an urban car’.
Yesterday, footage appeared online (as above) of just such a concept being tested in Berlin. The model is set to make its official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month, so the road testing in Germany’s capital appears to have be an attempt to drive public curiosity into the car maker’s increasing diverse use of EV technology.
The lightweight and compact concept features free-standing 21-inch wheels like a quad bike. The low-slung cabin is entered via a manoeuvrable roof which slides to the rear to open.
Powered by two e-tron electric motors and a lithium-ion battery, Audi says the model is suited to ‘extended city tours’ however we will have to wait until Frankfurt to find out exact details on the range, top speed and performance capabilities of the model.
The Frankfurt Motor Shows opens to the press on September 13 and 14, 2011 (when we will bring you all the exclusives) with a public show running until the 25th.
