The Ford Edge crossover will be the latest vehicle to receive the company’s EcoBoost 2.0litre four-cylinder engine, with fuel economy expected to reach 30mpg.
The engine delivers 240hp at 5,500rpm and 270lb-ft of torque at 3,000rpm with increased responsiveness and superior fuel efficiency enabled by twin independent variable camshaft timing.
Its efficiency is further enhanced thanks to the use of low-friction 5W-GF5 motor oil and a unique 6F35 six-speed automatic transmission which uses active transmission warm-up to help reduce internal friction as the powertrain approaches its usual operating temperature.
In addition, the Ford Edge with EcoBoost will make use of active grille shutters to improve aerodynamics.
So far the EcoBoost engine line-up has been highly successful with Ford to have built nearly 180,000 vehicles containing the model by the end of the year. For example, more than half of all Taurus SHO buyers are new to the Ford brand and more than 62 per cent of Flex with EcoBoost buyers had not previously considered a Ford product.
