The production ready version of the plug-in Prius will be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor show, Toyota has revealed.
Already extensively tested, the new Prius features a new, smaller lithium-ion battery and allows the hybrid car to travel farther on its charge than the current standard Prius. In fact, based on European homologation cycle the plug-in has a fuel efficiency figure of 128.4mpg and CO2 emissions of just 49g/km.
The latest development of the company’s Hybrid Synergy Drive system, the Prius Plug-in will officially join Toyota’s expanded range of hybrids in 2012.
Next year promises to be an exciting one for Toyota’s hybrid line-up, with the Prius and British built Auris HSD joined by the plug-in Prius, but also a hybrid version of its supermini, the Yaris, and an enlarged seven seat Prius known as the Prius+.
