Scottish entertainment centre deploys electric 4×4 waste collector

One of Scotland’s leading family entertainment destinations, Xscape Braehead, has taken delivery of a 100% electric 4×4 utility vehicle to help with its recycling and waste collection. The Tomberlin VANISH, from ePower Trucks, will also be used to help ferry maintenance staff around the popular complex located near to Glasgow.

Paul Middleton, Facilities Manager at Xscape Braehead, said: “Replacing petrol and diesel-powered utility vehicles not only helps us further reduce our carbon footprint, but it will save us money on fuel, vehicle maintenance and servicing.

“Petrol is only going to get more expensive, whereas the electric vehicle from ePower Trucks costs us just pennies per mile in electricity.”

Capable of a top speed of 25mph the VANISH has a range of around 50miles on a single charge and thanks to its flat torque is an ideal vehicle for towing the 1,100 litre refuse bins. It costs around 3p per mile to run in electricity, depending on drive conditions; a fraction of the fuel costs for a similar diesel-powered vehicle.

Ross Sommerville, Scotland Area Manager for ePowerTrucks, said: “With lower energy costs and better performance than a standard UTV, we believe VANISH will very quickly replace petrol-powered vehicles for facilities maintenance applications.”
