The Hummer-a relic of our carefree, gas guzzling past is back-as an electric car. The Hummer brand, famous for its sub-10mpg vehicles, was resigned to the scrapheap by its parent firm GM back in 2010, as the car giant battled to restore itself to profitability. But as GM abandoned Hummer, so a new firm acquired the licence to build an electric version of the brand’s HX model.
Now the new mini electric Hummers are available to buy courtesy of My Electric Vehicle (MEV), which opened the order books earlier this year. Its electric models have already been seen on the streets of London, appearing as part of the Gumball Rally back in May.
Available in four body styles, the MEV Hummer HX has a driving range of 60 miles or 100 miles with a lithium battery option. The mini-sized Hummer is a two seater which is just 3000mm long and uses 72v lead acid battery drive system.
