By refining the shape and fine tuning the exterior design of the new Chevrolet Malibu, General Motors engineers have removed more than 60 counts – a count is 0.001 co-efficient of drag – of wind drag from the vehicle.
The aerodynamic improvements mean the new Chevy Malibu offers customers an additional 2.5miles per gallon more on the highway.
So how did they achieve this? Some of the key features include:
- Outside rear-view mirrors specifically designed to deflect wind without upsetting air-flow.
- Rounded front corners that help air flow smoothly along theMalibu’s body sides.
- Shutters in the lower grill that open and close automatically to maximise aerodynamic efficiency – they increase cooling airflow to the engine under certain conditions and reduce aerodynamic drag when not needed.
Production of the newMalibuis scheduled to begin in early 2012 with the ECO model. It will be sold in nearly 100 countries with pricing to be announced later this year.
