It was just yesterday that we revealed Cadillac’s plans to introduce an electric car (see article) – and now it seems a hybrid vehicle is on the horizon too.
In Pebble Beach, California, Cadillac unveiled the Ciel Concept – which is a four-seat open-air grand tourer that is powered by a twin-turbocharged version of a 3.6litre direct injection V-6 engine. It is tied to a hybrid system that includes lithium-ion battery technology with electric drive at low speeds.
The vehicle produces 425hp and 430lb-ft of torque but so far there is no further information about the transmission.
According to Clay Dean, the global designer director for Cadillac, the Ciel is about the romance of driving, emulating some of the great touring cars of days gone by. It has a wheelbase of 125inches with French-styled doors and rear doors that are hinged for a sweeping view of the interior.
