Renault receives Techie award for EV development

Renault has been recognised for its development of a complete range of electric vehicles and for its approach to environmental sustainability, receiving a Techie award from fleet publication, BusinessCar.

The fleet technology awards, called The Techies, aim to praise the development of fleet solutions in a number of technological areas including green developments, fleet risk management and remarketing to name a few.

The French car maker adds the award to a Technology Award already in its trophy cabinet from BusinessCar’s sister title WhatVan?

Paul Barker, Group Editor of BusinessCar and What Van? said: “As one of the judges commented, Renault is ‘putting its money where its mouth is’ and the massive achievement of offering an electric vehicle at an affordable price gives the technology the best possible chance of taking off.”

Darren Payne, fleet and commercial vehicle operations director at Renault UK, said: “The Renault-Nissan Alliance is investing four billion Euros into the Zero Emissions (Z.E.) programme and the fruits of this will soon be a familiar sight on the UK’s roads.

As part of its Renault 2016 – Drive the Change strategic plan, Renault has committed to cutting its carbon footprint by 10% between now and 2013, plus a further 10% between 2013 and 2016.

The first two of four EVs from the car maker launch here by early 2012, the Kangoo Z.E and Twizy Z.E. These firsts will be joined later by the saloon Fluence Z.E and the supermini-sized ZOE Z.E.
