News in brief: US drivers travelling less

With the economy still taking its toll on most Americans, it seems that many US motorists are cutting back on the miles they drive.

According to the June 2011 Traffic Volume Trends Report from the Federal Highway Administration, total vehicle miles travelled in the US dropped 1.1 per cent during the first six months of the year.

Now the cumulative estimate for 2011 is 1,452.7billion vehicle miles of travel.
