Ford to unveil Evos Concept at Frankfurt Motor Show

The 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show is starting to take shape with Ford the latest major car manufacturer to announce it will unveil an exciting new concept at the event.

The Ford Evos Concept will make its debut inGermany– it is a four-door, four-seat fastback concept with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. Its aim is to exploit a new generation of driver interaction and awareness; and it boasts “seamless connectivity” between the vehicle and the driver’s “personal cloud” of information which helps the car adapt handling, steering and engine controls for the driver to deliver an exceptional driving experience.

It is fitted with a lithium-ion plug-in hybrid powertrain that provides the same performance and fuel economy as the Ford C-MAX Energi, which is scheduled to be introduced in North America in 2012 and in Europe in 2013. The advanced powertrain can run in all-electric mode before switching to charge-sustainable hybrid mode.

Thanks to historical driver behaviour and travel patterns, the cloud-optimised powertrain knows when to save energy and switch modes while using information about the vehicle’s predicted travel route, emission zone restrictions and weather conditions. In future, with it expected that there may be firm restrictions on the types of vehicles that can be used on certain roads this technology can help drivers comply with regulations.

In addition, the Ford Evos Concept represents a new design direction for the company.

It is the length of a typical C-car, but has the width of a CD-car. It measures 4.50m long, 1.97m wide and 1.36m high with a wheelbase of 2.74m.
