The UK automotive industry’s low carbon motoring event, LCV 2011 opens for the first of two jam packed days at the Rockingham Motor Speedway in Corby, Northamptonshire today.
Run by Cenex, the UK’s centre for excellence in low carbon and fuel cell technologies, the event is now in its fourth year and is set to be its biggest yet. Designed to bring together key automotive industry figures, to exhibit their capabilities in the field of low carbon vehicles, attendees include a mix of fleet companies, manufacturers, low carbon supply chain companies and alternative fuel experts.
Exhibitors include Arup, Ashwoods Automotive, Allied Electric, Delta Motorsport, Chargemaster, Controlled Power Technologies, Elektromotive, Mercedes Benz, Nissan, Pod Point, Toyota, Evida, Zytec Automotive and Ricardo. Notable speakers at the event include Mark Prisk MP, Minister for Business and Enterprise, Arup’s Associate Director Neil Butcher and Iain Gray, Chief Executive of the Technology Strategy Board (TSB).
While Arup and TSB will be revealing more about the results of recent electric vehicle trials undertaken in the UK (see story) the event will also mark the launch of ‘Electric Corby’-an initiative established by Corby Borough Council, Cenex and Bela Partnership to attract world leaders in clean technology to Corby. The idea is to help establish the town, which sits in the heart of the UK’s motorsport valley, as a practical R&D centre for energy efficient living and low carbon vehicles.
This year is the first year that the Rockingham circuit has hosted the LCV event as Cenex sought a larger venue to accommodate an expanding list of exhibitors. This year’s event is expected to welcome around 2000 attendees. Open today, the event will continue tomorrow (Thursday 8, 2011), for more information and to attend, visit: www.lcv2011.co.uk.
