Volkswagen introduces new family of vehicles

The Frankfurt Motor Show has welcomed plenty of individual debutants, but Volkswagen has gone one step further by introducing an entire series of cars.

Volkswagen’s new small family features six concept cars: the electric e-up! (scheduled for production in 2013); the eco-up! natural gas drive (due to be in production by next year’s show); the NILS single-seat electric vehicle; the buggy up! concept; the cross up! with customised and rugged design; and the GT up! a higher powered vehicle.

Now we have more details on both the eco up! and the electric e-up!

The eco up! has a natural gas engine and features BlueMotion technology. It emits just 79g/km of CO2 with compressed natural gas offering a number of benefits as it is consistently more economical than hybrid systems and achieves the best values in emissions.

In addition, the vehicle boasts a newly developed 1.0litre three-cylinder engine. Its combined fuel consumption will be 3.2kg CNG/100km and it has a CO2 value of 86g/km.

Meanwhile, the e-up! will launch on the market in 2013. It features an electric motor with a peak power of 60kW and maximum torque of 210Nm while it can reach a top speed of 84mph. Its battery enables distances of up to 81miles, depending on the driving style.
