Sales of hybrid cars and electric cars grew rapidly last month in France – however, they still only retain a marginal market share.

According to new statistics, sales of hybrid vehicles rose 46 per cent in September to account for 0.8 per cent of the market. The Honda Jazz led the way as the best selling model with 455 units sold; followed by the Toyota Auris (380 units); and the Toyota Prius (139 units).
Meanwhile, electric cars represent less than 0.2 per cent of the automotive market in France but have seen their offer expand with the arrival of the Renault Fluence ZE – 109 were registered last month, with official marketing beginning this week.
In addition, 51 Bollore BlueCar units were registered as part of the Autolib service in Japan – this is on top of 62 Peugeot iOn models; 39 Citroen C-Zero cars; 17 Nissan LEAF electric cars; 13 Mia; and 10 Smart Fortwo vehicles.
Since the start of the year, a total of 1,428 electric vehicles have been registered in France – with 920 coming from PSA Peugeot Citroen.
