Nissan develops 10 min EV super charger

Nissan is believed to have developed an electric car charger, capable of fully recharging its Leaf battery model in just 10 minutes.

Working in conjunction with Kansai University, the Japanese car maker has developed a new capacitor electrode made of tungsten oxide and vanadium oxide instead of using carbon, CNet.com reports.

The development of a faster charging system could help the car maker overcome one of the major criticisms facing electric cars. Along with price and range, a full charge time of around 8 hours is often cited as a reason why motorists are reluctant to make the switch to EVs. According to unknown source the new charger can deliver rapid recharging without reducing capacity or voltage.

So far, commercially available DC quick chargers can take electric cars to about 80 per cent capacity in just thirty minutes.
