Volkswagen to expand car sharing project

Its Quicar car sharing project has not yet begun – but Volkswagen has already decided to expand it.

The project is due to kick off in Hanover in November and now Volkswagen has added a new option called “Quicar Plus” which will offer longer usage times as well as additional Volkswagen models including the Up!, the new Beetle, the Passat Variant, the Sharan, the Golf Cabriolet, the Transporter and the Caravelle.

Under the car sharing project, a total of 200 Volkswagen Golf BlueMotion vehicles will be available for short-term rental – and now an additional 70 vehicles will be available under Quicar Plus. It is thought that the new option is designed for longer usage times and longer distances, including mini breaks and business trips. However, unlike Quicar, the vehicles must be collected from dealerships in Hanover or from the new Quicar shop.

Vehicles can be booked 24/7, either by phone or via the internet – they also come with the option of a delivery and collection service. All of the vehicles involved have efficient engines, high quality equipment and white bodywork.

The Quicar car sharing concept will be launched next month with cars initially available at 50 pick-up and drop-off locations – in the medium term, 100 stations are planned across the city.

There is a first time registration fee of €25 and minimum rental time is 30minutes – rental thereafter will be charged to the nearest minute at 20 euro cents per 60 seconds.

Anyone interested can pre-register at the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles customer centre in Hanover.
