Car sharing giant car2go has extended its partnership with Europcar, the leader in car rental services in Europe, to create car2go Europe that will bring car sharing mobility services to millions of drivers throughout Europe.
The company, which will have its headquarters in Stuttgart, will be owned 75 per cent by car2go and 25 per cent by Europcar.
Its plans are to roll out car2go services in 40-50 European cities while capitalising on car2go technology and know-how; as well as Daimler’s vehicle-related services; and Europcar’s car rental know-how and infrastructure.
The first city to benefit will be Lyon, France, in early 2012. Existing car2go operations, such as those in Hamburg, will also switch to the new company. Car2go currently has more than 45,000 members and 1,100 vehicles with proven success in Ulm and Hamburg in Germany; Austin, Texas in the USA; and Vancouver, British Columbia, in Canada. It has also announced it will extend to Lyon, France; Amsterdam, Netherlands; and San Diego, California.
