Ford to take Transit production to Kansas City

Kansas City,Missouri, will benefit from a new Ford Transit Assembly Plant when the product joins the North American line-up in 2013.

Ford has announced that it will invest $1.1billion in a new body shop, new tooling in the Final Assembly area, an upgraded paint shop and an all-new integrated stamping plant. Part of the investment will also go to supporting next generation F-150 pick-up production at the plant.

The existing SUV line-up at the Kansas City facility will reopen in 2013 after being idled for retooling with the current Escape model to be phased out. Production of the F-150 is also set to increase.

The Kansas City Assembly Plant will be Ford’s fourth North American facility to be retooled to support its new portfolio of vehicles.
