Petrol demand continues to rise in USA

According to figures from the American Petroleum Institute (API), US petrol deliveries increased by 2.5 per cent in September – reaching 19.9million barrels a day.

Motor gasoline demand was only up by 0.3 per cent; but distillate demand reached a record for the month. However, compared to the previous year, overall petroleum demand was down 1.3 per cent; while total petrol imports were down by 9.9 per cent.

The API reports that US refinery gasoline production increased by three per cent compared to September 2010; and was at a record high on a year to date basis. Indeed refinery inputs remained at more than 15million barrels per day for the fourth month in a row.

Meanwhile, crude oil production showed weakness compared to September one year ago with crude production in the lower 48 states down, while production in Alaska increased. For the fourth time this year, crude oil stocks showed year over year declines with imports falling compared to the previous year.
