Scania has revealed its new global engine platform – which can run on up to 100 per cent biodiesel.
It will be used worldwide for all emission standards ranging from Euro3 to Euro6 with European markets also having access to an extended range of Euro5 and EEV engines with SCR technology. All of the inline engines will be based on the latest platform introduced in 2007 and will feature technologies that meet Euro5 and Euro6 emission requirements.
The two initial Euro6 engines will feature a combination of EGR and SCR technology and are suitable for both long haulage and construction work. They will be accompanied by 16 Euro5 engines; and 11 EEV engines, including one ethanol and two gas/biogas versions.
Those in Euro4 markets will have access to nine engines all based on SCR technology; while there will be seven Euro3 engines to complete the offering.
The global engine platform has benefitted from a number of refinements since its launch in 2007 including improvements on the intake and exhaust manifolds; turbochargers; pistons and cylinder heads; EGR system; and more.
In addition, the latest engines have a torque-to-power ratio of around five, which results in excellent driveability.
