BYD electric car available now in China

It has seemingly been talked about for years – but now the BYD e6 electric vehicle has finally been made available for consumer purchases in China.

The E6, which was previously available for fleet purchases, will cost US$38,430 thanks to a substantial government subsidy in Shenzhen of around US$18,000, reducing its initial price tag of $56,900. The vehicle is already well-established in the city where it has been in operation in government and taxi fleets over the last 18months.

It will be the first domestic all-electric car for sale to consumers in China and features lithium iron-phosphate batteries, with a driving range of more than 190miles.Ā

In addition, the BYD e6 electric car will feature a number of breakthrough technologies and will implement the newly developed ā€œIā€ system. This allows many vehicle functions to be performed remotely via smart phone and using cloud-data for driving assistance.

The e6 electric car will be connected continuously to the internet and the mobile communication network with BYD owners able to utilise their smart phones to lock and unlock car doors; initiate air conditioning; search for news or real-time information; enjoy location-based services; and communicate with a service call centre for help or time of accident.
