Honda unsure of future after Thailand floods

The worst flooding in Thailand for 50 years has put the immediate future of the Honda automobile production subsidiary in the country in question.

Honda has issued a statement outlining that it does not have a clear outlook on when production will resume as flooding has continued since October 8, 2011. Production was halted on October 4 after parts supply disruptions.

This disruption has spread to Honda’s motorcycle and power products production subsidiary even though it does not have any flood water on its property. It has suspended motorcycle production since October 11 and power products production since October 6. Thai Honda is scheduled to suspend its production until November 4 – but it is expected to continue to monitor the situation from November 7 onwards.

Elsewhere in Asia, Honda plants have been making adjustments to production volume or even suspending production due to the limited parts supply from Thailand.

For example, in Japan, production operations at the Suzuka and Saitama Factories are scheduled to make production adjustments on November 7 due to limited parts supply. Operations in other regions are also being impacted.
