Electric car charging comes to Tennessee

The state may be famous for Elvis Presley and Dolly Parton, but it’s the arrival of a new fast charger for electric cars that will be music to the ears of Tennessee natives.

ECOtality has teamed up with the Cracker Barrel Old Country Store to unveil the Blink Direct Current Fast Charger at the Lebanon Cracker Barrel location – the first of 12 state-wide. The charging stations can recharge a battery to 80 per cent of its capacity in just under 30minutes.

According to Jonathan Read, the CEO of ECOtality, the Blink charging stations will be placed strategically and will help provide the data needed to build a commercial infrastructure.

ECOtality has worked closely with Cracker Barrel during the site selection process taking into account factors such as traffic patterns and retail destinations. The Cracker Barrel locations will also be equipped with Blink Pedestal chargers that electric vehicle drivers can use to “top off” while shopping and dining.

The move is part of ECOtality’s EV Project which will involve the installation of around 14,000 commercial and residential charging stations in 18 major cities and metropolitan areas in six states and the District of Columbia.
